The world goes by a certain rules and guidelines, which everyone is expected to honor and follow diligently, without asking any questions or raising any doubts. Even before a person has reached his sanity, there is a set of ground-rules, that he has to fulfill, in order to be accepted by the society. I’m trying to focus on the Human nature of attaining a level of perfection that has never existed and it never will. People spend their lifetime trying to match their ideals, and their ideals are infact doing the same ! So, this chain of depravity has no starting and no beginning, just a continuum of solace.
There has always been a drift between the generalists and the perfectionists. I guess, it has been clear enough from my starting remarks, that i belong to the class where people try to be jack of all trades. Apparently the saying “Jack of all trades, master of none” is not complete in itself and is infact – “Jack of all trades, master of none, though oft times better than master of one! ” I believe that one should be aim at having an open arsenal of motleyed weapons rather than having a nuke missile in a hidden silo. One should be brave enough to speak what he thinks and learns what he wants, he shouldn’t be bounded by the norms of the society, the barriers of his profession and bounds of his imagination.
And as Robert A. Heinlein has said –
A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, perform Laptop Repairs, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.
A person should be looking for his overall horizontal development and not just the heights and depths he has achieved in one of the verticals. There is no such thing as a perfect altruist in this world, everyone has a motive behind his deeds. Either one should have a very intense desire, passion, aptitude and attitude to go after one single thing for the rest of his life, or he should be bold enough to do whatever he wants, for however much time he wants and with whomever he wants.
I feel a sane human always has the following qualities in him –
- Endless Curiosity to know who he is, what is his purpose in this universe and all those things which a meta-physicist would preach you, but coming to practical and real life model of same, how can one be satisfied with just one branch out of the infinitely many, one can never have a hand big enough to get hold of all the branches at a time, but surely a bundle is better than a mere twig.
- A Love Of Learning is something which i value in people the most. Learning never stops and there is no age to start or to stop learning. There are so many things to be learned in this world, that it is inhumanly impossible to even know the basics of each an every thing, let alone the details. Yet, people shut the doors of their minds to the things which are out of the path, which they have been treading in past. It is simple to tread a known path, but treasures are always found in the dark, hidden passageways. One has to keep opening up new avenues to reach those precious havens.
- A Deep-Seated Need For Control is what everyone wants in life. Be it the control over the decisions one makes for his life, or the decisions others make affecting the concerned person’s life. Thus, a person can make an informed decision only if he knows about the whole sphere of life and not just his chunk.
Thus, going by the theme of the photo i clicked last week, there is no start, no end just one circle opening up into another and the ripples are the ones which carry these circles into each other. Thus, each circle is a domain of life, equally important, it is not enough to remain in only one of them, because ultimately you will be thrown into another circle by a ripple, thus better have knowledge about all the incoming circles of your life !
